Tooth decay arising out of Darlington water , has sparked the move to add fluoride to its water. This move was taken in the town where more than one third of the 5 year olds , suffer from tooth decay. Some years later ( 63 years ) the town Council , was urged to do so by one of its committees.
When it rejected the scheme in 1955 , members of Darlington Town Council said they feared they were making a mistake.
However 7 years later , the ministry of Health , in its report published , found that there had been , a substantial improvement in the teeth of young children , and no evidence of harm from fluoridation had been discovered.
