(Dentistry precedes the fluoride-touting chemical industry).

Let’s drill down (ha!) into specific materials that might go into your mouth at your dental surgery.

Fillings / aka “Composite fillings”

Ask for Methyl methacrylate

This is the filling “base’ you want.

It is a very common fluoride-free material used for composite fillings ie the white fillings.

But make sure your white fillings are NOT:

Glass Ionomer Fillings – avoid

This is another white filling / bonding agent – which does have fluoride in it.

The boast is that this releases fluoride over time “thus strengthening your tooth and maintaining good dental health” … and possibly poisoning you.

Gold fillings

These are cemented on with a resin. So be careful that Glass Ionomer isn’t used “for extra protection around the edge”.

No thanks.

There are alternatives

Now rinse out please:

Your dentist probably uses highly diluted Hydrogen peroxide for their Mouth Rinses.

This doesnt contain fluoride. But check if they use something else

Teeth Cleaning / Polishing:

Fluoride products aren’t usually used by default by dental hygienists.

But some of the polishing pastes might have fluoride in them. So check this with your dental hygienist.

Conclusion:

Dentists will use the fluoride materials by default so you do need to tell them.

If you have a serious tooth decay issue they might challenge you but they should have alternatives.

It is your body. Not the dentists. So what you allow into your body is your decision.

Any dentist that argues with you is highly questionable. By all means they can starte their case. Buut once you’ve put your points to them they should accept it. If not, maybe it’s time to find yourself a better human being as your dentist.

Does Fluoride Interfere with Creativity / Creative Intuition https://blog.uk-water-filters.co.uk/fluoride-interferes-creativity/ https://blog.uk-water-filters.co.uk/fluoride-interferes-creativity/#respond Mon, 27 Sep 2021 10:03:45 +0000 http://blog.uk-water-filters.co.uk/?p=4945 Here’s a chat I had with my dentist recently:

Me: I’d rather not have a fluoride-based filling.

Dentist: Why not? (Thinks: ‘Oh God. I thought this one was “normal”)

Me: I’m worried that it interferes with my creativity.

Dentist: What do you mean?

Me: My artistic friends have observed that using fluoride toothpaste somehow seems to block their creativity… so thanks but I don’t want any in my dental treatment”

Dentist: Actually my partner is an artist and I’ve never heard of that.

Me: (Thinks: ”Really? Maybe that’s why I’ve never heard of them haha” )

But I don’t say it because that would be unnecessarily cruel. And as many well-known contemporary artists have proven so effectively, artistic recognition has little to do with artistic talent.

Me: .. Soooo is that OK? Can you make sure not to use any dental materials with fluoride in them?

The answer should be:

Dentist: Yes that is not a problem.

And it shouldn’t be, because, as we detail in  the article How to tell Your Dentist you don’t want Fluoride, every dental surgery will have non-fluoride products readily available.

How Fluoride seems to affect Artists (and Psychics too)

One of the things that impressed this writer was – while having no particular views for or against them – hearing a Psychic mentioning how fluoride blocked their connection to the spirit world.

There’s similar anecdotal evidence that fluoride has a negative effect on artistic creativity.

Many artists believe their inspiration comes from ”above”.

Musicians like Noel Gallagher of Oasis fame has spoken openly about there being a pool of great songs floating around in the ether.

When you hear one you have to grab it / write it down immediately or it moves on to the next guy.

If fluoride blocks the psychic then does it also block artistic inspiration?

And Massage Therapists…

Fluoride is also felt to diminish the work of massage therapists, especially “intuitive” energy based massages like shiatsu where there’s an exchange of energy between the giver and receiver.

Again, this is anecdotal…

(But realistically;  how can you get evidence-based testing on intangible things like inspiration, psychic connection and energy based massages?)

Somewhere out there a smart scientist might be reading this article and might come up with a solution to this problem.

Conclusion: Fluoride seems to affect intuition. So it seems to affect those who rely on intuition

Want to Avoid Fluoride At Your Dentist but Too Afraid to Ask? Here’s Four things You Can Say https://blog.uk-water-filters.co.uk/want-avoid-fluoride-dentist-afraid-ask-heres-four-things-can-say/ https://blog.uk-water-filters.co.uk/want-avoid-fluoride-dentist-afraid-ask-heres-four-things-can-say/#respond Mon, 27 Sep 2021 09:18:51 +0000 http://blog.uk-water-filters.co.uk/?p=4937 If you don’t want to have Fluoride as part of your dental treatment then simply tell your dentist.

Every dental practice will have alternatives to fluoride readily stocked (Read more here)

Your dentist might be bemused by your decision. But more and more people are bringing this up so your dentist should be less surprised than they would have been a few years ago.

They will almost certainly ask you why you want to avoid fluoride.

Why Your Dentist Wants You to Have Fluoride

The thing is that your dentist has been trained to think fluoride is a great health product.

They really do want what’s best for you.

But their training is part of a heavily marketed sixty-year-old mindset where a rampant chemicals industry told us that “all chemicals are great” and there wouldn’t be any downsides.

(Yes. Some chemicals might have have done good. But not all of them).

You chemist most likely wasn’t educated on the fact that Fluoride is a highly toxic chemical.

So How Toxic is Fluoride?

Well that depends on the exact type of fluoride , but you probably wouldn’t want to feed any of them to your family pet.

Some studies have suggested that fluoride is a human developmental neurotoxicant that reduces intelligence in children (Note 1)

Consider that chemicals like DDT and others were in circulation for decades, with hearty assurances from men in lab coats that they weren’t harmful.

But DDT was withdrawn after observation by concerned,  thoughtful healthcare experts led to a rethink.

Similar concerns surround fluoride.

On the one hand you have an industry making a lot of money.

On the other you have concerned professionals with little to gain but ridicule and rejection.

Just because a chemical is in widespread use doesn’t make it OK.

So have a simple answer ready for them.

Four things to tell your dentist why you don’t want any fluoride in your fillings or other dental treatments.

1) You could tell them it’s a highly toxic chemical that hardly any studies have been carried out on and that you’d rather err on the side of caution…

Yes you understand it does strengthen teeth etc. But what does it do to the rest of your body?

2) Tell them you prefer the precautionary principle. Who knows about the ins-and-outs but thanks so much you’d rather not have the chemical in your body if there are alternatives (There are).

3) And as your dentist will know, as long as you brush your teeth you don’t need fluoride, either in your toothpaste or in your dental treatment products

If your dentist disagrees with this then they’re either misinformed, under-educated or they’re not telling you the truth. So perhaps it’s time to find another dentist…

4) Or you could get more interesting and left-field your dentist with “I’m worried that fluoride interferes with my creativity”.

Why do some Public Health officials want you to have fluoride?

It’s not because they’re evil.

Like your fluoride-addicted dentist, they really do want what is best.

The fact is that Fluoride is added to tap water simply to protect the teeth of those unfortunate kids whose parents, for whatever reason, don’t look after them properly.

Public health officials will have seen these results for themselves. And they’re devastating.

So that’s why they care.

Tooth decay is the biggest reason in the UK for hospitalisation for children aged five to nine.

(And before we all start feeling smug and blamey: it’s not just ‘poor people’. Some rich kids also get neglected and hospitalised with terrible tooth decay) .

Don Draper’s Part in all this

Adding fluoride to toothpaste was as much an exercise in marketing toothpaste as in improving dental health.

The advertising industry is not a public-minded charity. They are paid by businesses to talk about things that will make them money.

Just like adding lead to petrol did indeed make engines run smoother,…

Yes: fluoride is good for teeth

But if you brush your teeth regularly, fluoride is not necessary.

Like adding lead to petrol,  adding fluoride to toothpaste wasn’t necessarily such a great idea in other ways…

Now, of course, “lead free petrol” is advertised as a marketing “benefit“.

But this started with the work of unpaid public spirited campaigners who – despite ridicule – publicised the health risks of spraying lead out of car exhausts… into children’s brains…

No doubt we can expect the major toothpaste manufacturers to start boasting about their fluoride-free alternatives.

And so it goes…

From speakeasy gyms to exercise bubbles, here are 12 ways the pandemic has drastically altered fitness and exercise as we know it https://blog.uk-water-filters.co.uk/from-speakeasy-gyms-to-exercise-bubbles-here-are-12-ways-the-pandemic-has-drastically-altered-fitness-and-exercise-as-we-know-it/ https://blog.uk-water-filters.co.uk/from-speakeasy-gyms-to-exercise-bubbles-here-are-12-ways-the-pandemic-has-drastically-altered-fitness-and-exercise-as-we-know-it/#respond Sun, 01 Aug 2021 13:00:10 +0000 https://blog.uk-water-filters.co.uk/?p=4935

Gyms are beginning to reopen, albeit with protocols for masking, distancing and capacity. In areas where gyms cannot legally reopen, “speakeasy gyms” are covertly appearing. Another trend is the popularity of fitness apps, such as Strava. Exercisers have taken not only to fitness apps, but also to outdoor classes. Some are even working out in bubbles. Running has remained popular as an approved outdoor activity during the pandemic. Sales of outdoor bicycles have increased, and Peloton bikes and dumbbells are in short supply. Sports apparel and leisurewear has also experienced a boost in sales, thanks to both fitness buffs and couch potatoes who lounge at home most of the day.

Key Takeaways:

  • The use of fitness apps, such as Strava, has soared during the pandemic.
  • Many Americans took to running outdoors, with or without masks, during the lockdown.
  • Sales of athletic apparel and leisurewear have increased, due to increases in exercising and working from home.

“The fitness industry has changed dramatically during the pandemic, as the coronavirus outbreak has temporarily shuttered gyms and prompted Americans to find creative ways to stay fit.”

9 Of The Biggest Fitness Trends Of 2021 To Know Now That Gyms Are Open Again https://blog.uk-water-filters.co.uk/9-of-the-biggest-fitness-trends-of-2021-to-know-now-that-gyms-are-open-again/ https://blog.uk-water-filters.co.uk/9-of-the-biggest-fitness-trends-of-2021-to-know-now-that-gyms-are-open-again/#respond Sat, 31 Jul 2021 13:00:13 +0000 https://blog.uk-water-filters.co.uk/?p=4933

The pandemic lockdown changed the way we exercise, and many of its trends will persist through 2021. Although gyms and leisure centers are opening again, online workouts will most likely remain popular. Low-intensity yoga and pilates have trended, as have quick micro-HIIT (high intensity interval training) workouts. Two new ideas are eye yoga, a response to staring at screens for too long, and “everesting”, people using home bikes to climb the height of Mount Everest. Virtual challenges have become a popular way to make exercise fun and competitive, and wearable tech is advancing, as with the Apple Series 6 tracking watch. Finally, being stuck inside most of the time has lead to an increase in walking for exercise, and an upsurge in outside workouts and outdoor fitness boot camps.

Key Takeaways:

  • At-home workouts have become more popular, but so have walks and hikes in the outdoors.
  • High intensity interval training (known as HIIT) is surging, boosted by apps such as the 7 Minute Workout Challenge.
  • Cyclists have taken to “everesting,” a challenge where they climb 8,848m, the height of Mount Everest.

“The silver lining of lockdown saw many of us slow down our mind and movements as we spent more time indoors with our immediate bubbles.”

Oatmeal benefits for the skin: Properties and how to use https://blog.uk-water-filters.co.uk/oatmeal-benefits-for-the-skin-properties-and-how-to-use/ https://blog.uk-water-filters.co.uk/oatmeal-benefits-for-the-skin-properties-and-how-to-use/#respond Thu, 29 Jul 2021 13:00:12 +0000 https://blog.uk-water-filters.co.uk/?p=4931

Oatmeal is known to provide health benefits to our skin. Many people use it to treat dry or itchy skin. In ground form, oatmeal effectively eliminates dirt and dead cells from our skin. It can also reduce certain inflammations and provide moisturizing effect. Medical professionals usually suggest oatmeal in a form of a fine powder. Grounding to a fine granule size is possible to do at home. This, so-called colloidal type of oatmeal has good antioxidant characteristics and helps healing damage of the skin caused by eczema.

Key Takeaways:

  • Oatmeal is beneficial to the skin because it concludes components such as beta glucan, phenols, saponins and oils.
  • Oatmeal can be used on the skin many different ways including for dryness and itching, for eczema and for psoriasis.
  • You can make an exfoliating face mask to remove dead skin cells and unclog pores by using just colloidal oatmeal and water.

“Most research into the use of oatmeal on the skin examines the effects of colloidal oatmeal. Colloidal oatmeal refers to whole oat kernels that manufacturers have finely milled and processed in order to use as a skin protectant.”

Year 2020 will be remembered as a year of the pandemic and how it affected our lives. Many people, in the face of adversity, focused on their healthy eating habits and this trend continues in 2021. Foods based on plants and those grown with the assistance of technology are becoming a mainstream topic. Postbiotics, a new term in nutrition science, take the prominent place in discussions about gut health. Yogurts, hugely popular before the pandemic, continued their dominance among dairy products.

Key Takeaways:

  • Postbiotics are the end products of the fermentation process inside the gut, and they may have significant health benefits.
  • Artificial intelligence is being used to create new foods, such as a vegan substitute for dairy protein.
  • New companies are dedicated to heirloom varieties of spices and less familiar condiments.

“Food production is a significant contributor to climate change, accounting for a quarter of global greenhouse gas emissions. But our food choices can help counteract the effects of climate change.”

The evolution of home fitness https://blog.uk-water-filters.co.uk/the-evolution-of-home-fitness/ https://blog.uk-water-filters.co.uk/the-evolution-of-home-fitness/#respond Fri, 23 Jul 2021 13:00:25 +0000 https://blog.uk-water-filters.co.uk/?p=4925

When global pandemic struck last year, most gyms closed their doors forcing us to exercise within our homes. Yes, fitness at home is not a new trend and has been around for several decades. Think about the aerobics craze back in the 1990s, when you couldn’t find a home that did not tune in one of the channels showing routines in the morning. Yet, we can say that pandemic led to a significant evolution in exercise trends. Technology is taking over many aspects of these activities and there’s an increase social element despite staying at home.

Key Takeaways:

  • Jack LaLanne’s popular exercise TV show was geared toward middle-class women.
  • Jogging culture and the opening of gyms moved exercise out of the home.
  • VHS technology and later Nordic Track machines gave a boost to home exercise.

“Home fitness has been in our lives for decades – and it’s taken on a new role since the Covid-19 pandemic closed gyms around the world.”

Nutrition and athletic performance: What to consider https://blog.uk-water-filters.co.uk/nutrition-and-athletic-performance-what-to-consider/ https://blog.uk-water-filters.co.uk/nutrition-and-athletic-performance-what-to-consider/#respond Wed, 21 Jul 2021 13:00:12 +0000 https://blog.uk-water-filters.co.uk/?p=4923

When it comes to athletics, nutrition plays an extremely important role. Our daily guidelines suggest that carbohydrates take up 45-65% of our calories, protein takes up 10-35% and fat takes up 20-35%. Carbs are the most commonly used fuel source for athletes especially during long duration exercise. Carbs help us maintain our muscle and liver glycogen stores. Protein is also very important to athletes because it helps them repair their muscles and tissues. Finally, fat helps keep athletes full and balances our hormones to keep our bodies in peak condition.

Key Takeaways:

  • Protein is extremely important when it comes to sports nutrition because it helps build and repair our muscles and tissues.
  • The recommended amount of protein for an athlete is about 2 grams of protein per 1 pound of body weight. Higher protein diets can help prevent slow recovery in athletes.
  • Fat is also very important to our diet because it can boost satiety and also work as fuel for athletes that have high energy demands.

“For example, an endurance athlete would increase the amount of carbohydrates they eat, while a strength athlete would increase their protein intake.”
