One of the fallout effects of Britain’s Brexit bomb has been the need for the UK, however unprepared and reluctant, to take the reins of certain areas that are now defaulting back to the island’s control. With the European Union entirely out of the picture, the gulf between Scottish and English government preferences could cause some massive growing, or at least adjustment, pains.

Some specific areas that will undoubtedly produce gubernatorial headaches as the push and pull between English and Scottish agendas collide include; Scotland’s ban on the sale and import of chlorinated chicken, the reduction of pollution of English water, which under the EU was to be 100% and now is possibly aiming at 75%. Other areas to be potentially under attack include, fisheries and public contracts and procurements.

Key Takeaways:

  • With Brexit happening, Westminster now holds new power over many hot button issues.
  • The welfare of animals, agricultural policies, and environmental rules now transfer to Westminster.
  • Public acquisitions and execution of fishing policies also lie with Westminster now.

“This prospect has loomed ever larger because of the UK Government’s hopes of securing a post-Brexit trade deal with the administration of Donald Trump; the United States currently allows the sale of chicken treated in such a way, and British practices may fall into line with lower American standards as part of US-UK negotiations.”
