The Quicksilver X Repreve program recycles the polyester from over 100 million plastic bottles every year and uses the reclaimed plastic to produce QuickSilver X board shorts. Reclaiming polyester from old bottles takes less than half the energy and only a fifth as much water as manufacturing polyester from scratch, which means that the Quicksilver X Repreve program saves the equivalent of 9 million liters of water and the energy consumption of 1000 households by using recycled polyester. The recycled contents of each pair of board shorts is equivalent to 10 bottles.

Key Takeaways:

  • In collaboration with REPREVE, the brand “quicksilver” has funded a recycling program.
  • Recycling and repurposing clothing items can have a significant impact on our global footprint.
  • The bottles recycled by this recycling program have save about 9 million liters of drinking water.

“Since its start in 2012, about 3500 tons of plastic has been repurposed into boardshorts, jackets and other garments.”
