This isn’t just a small group of villagers here and there. Over 600 million people do not have sustainable access to safe drinking water and a third of the world lack basic sewage treatment.
So what can the European Union do to step up? Admirably, the EU assisted 70 million people by granted them access to improved water supplies and provided 24 million people with better sanitation facilities between 2004 and 2013. While that is encouraging, there is a lot more work to do in order for everyone in the world to have the safe water conveniences you and I enjoy.
