The British Retail Consortium, a group representing more than 90 retailers, is calling on the British government to enact strict regulations, with stiff penalties for noncompliance, around decreasing the amount of sugar and fats British children are able to eat. Andrea Martinez-Inchausti, deputy director of food and sustainability at the Consortium, has said that the current guidelines, which allow for voluntary participation, are not enough. More than 40,000 deaths a year, one in 10, are obesity-related.
