A British allocation £2 million to UNICEF will help provide fresh potable water to 2 million Gazans. The Gaza Strip currrently suffers a major water shortage that makes it harder for people there to cook, bathe and carry out other activities. The UNICEF grant will include a wide variety of improvements to local and household water infrastructure, including rooftop and communal water tanks and chlorine to sterilize water. This will provide an alternative to the frequently unsafe water offered by Gazan water vendors.

Key Takeaways:

  • The UK is aligning with UNICEF to ensure approximately two million Palestinians have the means to get and use fresh water.
  • The assistance package will include 1000 roof water tanks slated for the use of Palestinian families.
  • The aid package will also incorporate about 3000 drums of communal water, for households that need to collect water.

“The UK is committed to helping achieve a peaceful two-state solution and we call on parties to urgently redouble their efforts to bring this suffering to an end.”
