Tanzanian chemical engineer, Askwar Hilonga, was awarded the prestigious African innovation prize after successfully created a water filter that is able to remove up to 97% of microorganisms in contaminated drinking water. His invention will help almost 70% households in Tanzania, which lack clean drinking water. He plans to further improve his water filter to 99.999% microorganisms reduction, and establish water stations to provide clean water at very low and affordable price.
