Colon cancer, the second most leading cause of death from cancer, can be slowed or prevented with a healthy lifestyle. Exercising, eating vegetables and fruits, limiting red meat intake and maintaining a healthy weight are key factors to a healthy lifestyle. In a recent study, people were told to follow the guidelines for a healthy lifestyle for seven years. At the end of the study, the participants that followed the guidelines had a much lower risk of colon cancer.

Key Takeaways:

  • If people live a heatlhy lifestyle of eating fruits and vegetables they will greatly reduce their chance of colon cancer.
  • As well if people limit their intake of red and processed meat they will help reduce their risk of colon cancer.
  • The study was done with 1,000 people but only 9 percent chose to live a healthy lifestyle, this leads me to believe that given a choice most people do not care about their health.

“Twice during the study, they were asked if their lifestyle followed prevention suggestions from the American Cancer Society. These guidelines include keeping a healthy weight, eating many fruits and vegetables, limiting intake of red and processed meats and exercising on a regular basis.”
