Last year, the algae bloom of Lake Erie that caused a water crisis for the city of Toledo, Ohio became a worldwide story and Ohio officials are teaming up with Michigan to ensure it doesn’t happen again. Both states have agreed to sharply reduce the amount of phosphorus runoff that had been the root cause of the algae growth, rendering the water undrinkable.
