The NHS will be underfunded the next couple of years. The amount pledged by the political parties is not sufficient to cover quality health care. Even with the extra pledges by the Tories, Labor, and the Liberal Democrats, the NHS is still underfunded.
OBR has recommended that a budget increase of 4% every year should be given to match the increase in population but the thinktank, Nuffield indicated that if the OBR recommendation be followed, spending would actually be more than what has been projected for 2022 to 2023

Key Takeaways:

  • Health experts say that the major political parties have left the NHS underfunded, which will eventually result in a lower standard of patient care.
  • None of the parties have promised funding that would keep the NHS running at appropriate levels of care.
  • The Nuffield Trust thinktank believes the NHS would need £155bn to keep up with patient care for a growing population.

“We disagree with this analysis, as the IFS [Institute for Fiscal Studies] has said that the Conservatives have matched Labour’s NHS spending commitments.”
