England’s National Institute for Healthcare Excellence has released its first guidance on the treatment of endometriosis, a condition that inflicts women with debilitating menstrual pain, can cause infertility, but is often dismissed as normal period pain. The new guidance suggests doctors who pay careful attention to complaints of period pain by their clients could correctly diagnose the condition earlier, improving the effectiveness of treatments. The disease affect 1.5 million women in the UK and 176 million worldwide.
