A group of farmers in California are volunteering to give a fourth of its water this year to the state as a whole. This sets a precedent since the water set aside for agriculture in California has been protected for more than a century. In exchange, the farmers want guarantees that none of the remaining 75% of the water they have rights to is restricted, regardless of the drought. As of this writing, no decision has been made by officials. For more details on this story, click here:: California farmers offer to give up some water, avoid cuts
