Ten British tourists were hospitalized after their speedboat crashed near Harstad, Norway. There were two boats involved carrying about 24 people. The first boat crashed after hitting a water fountain and the second boat hit the first one shortly after. Both boats were observed traveling at high speeds.
The tourists were returning from an excursion by a local travel agency. The pilot of boat sustained serious injuries while four tourists and a guide had injuries that required an overnight stay at the hospital.
The tourists were in their 50s and this was the first day of their visit as part of their planned tour.
All passengers were wearing survival suits and were in the water only 5-10 minutes before another boat came to their aid. The Foreign office has been in contact with Norweigan authorities and is prepared to offer help if needed.
