Are Sports Drinks Better Than Water?

When you are heavily active at the gym or preparing for the London Marathon, your body needs as much hydration and nutrients as it can get. Exerting that amount of effort requires your body to replenish energy and moisture. Sports drinks are advertised to fulfill that need, but do they really do better than regular drinking water?

Honestly, the results differ but lean toward “no” in most cases. Many scientists believe that unless you are working out consistently for over 90 minutes, sports drinks are no benefit and are just sugary water. In fact, the carbohydrates within sports drinks can slower the absorption of the water within them, which in turn makes it difficult to stay hydrated in the first place.
