The latest EU report shows that two thirds of all antibiotics used in 26 countries are being given to farm animals. Farmers have been putting antibiotics in the water supply in livestock in order to keep them healthy before they end up on the dinner plate. However, new evidence is showing that an antibiotic resistant E. coli in people is linked to antibiotic overuse in farming.

Many European countries, including the UK, have farmers routinely adding antibiotics in pig and poultry drinking water and there so far no new restrictions based on this discovery.
