The American Heart Association has a new study which claims that 60% of American children are not getting enough quality cardio-respiratory fitness. By engaging in more short high intensity training such as sprinting children can meet these requirements. Currently we are having a hard time motivating kids to do this. We are hoping that exercise will be required in every grade level leading up to high school in order to make this a normal activity in our society.

Key Takeaways:

  • Sadly, the newest research shows that approximately 60% of U.S. youngsters are significantly lacking in cardiorespiratory fitness.
  • Most public health offices lack the wherewithal, such as the needed facilities and equipment, to regularly monitor children’s cardiorespiratory. fitness.
  • CRF is also called aerobic fitness. It refers to the human body’s ability to keep muscles oxygenated during physical activity.

“In addition, studies have linked better CRF in children with improved academic achievement, clearer thinking, better mental health and a higher sense of self-worth and life satisfaction, according to studies cited in the statement. Since the 1980s, studies have demonstrated a downward trend for CRF among youth both in the U.S. and internationally.”
