There has been a thick mist in the air in the UK know as a freezing fog. This fog may greatly impact travel plans. This is a problem due to the upcoming holiday season. Unfortunately there will probably be flight cancelations and train delays. Those who have had there flights canceled will be able to change their flights up until December 22. The fog is a result of the air’s inability to hold any moisture.

Key Takeaways:

  • The freezing fog forms like regular fog, but stays liquid and then will form as rime on windows
  • This can cause damage to structures exposed to it by adding weight and burden beyond the normal moisture
  • It is a bigger problem for flights since it can form on wings and require costly de-icing.

“If visibility is less than 1,000 metres then it is classed as fog.”
