EPA Strikes Against Coal Ash Disposal

The Environmental Protection Agency in the United States has taken issue with how coal ash had been disposed of in the country. This past week they have announced their first national regulations to provide safe disposal of coal combustion residuals. How will this change anything?

Well, the EPA hopes to establish safeguards to protect communities from coal ash impoundment failures to prevent contamination to groundwater and curb air emissions. Another positive step is to restrict locations of new surface impoundments so they do not be built near wetlands or on earthquake zones.
