The owner of the Alysham Water Mill, Jon Spalding, agreed to negotiate with the towns council over the use of the River Bure. Mr. Spalding has insisted since he purchased the mil in 2004 that the land was part of the mil and therefore was not open to public use. The public is split over whether having an access path to the river is a good use of taxpayer money. This dispute has been raging for more than a decade so this could well be the end of the saga.
