Scientists believe that a deep ocean oil spill could have major environment consequences. This is because the oil eating bacteria that clean up the mess do not do as well in that environment. Because of depleting oil reserves, deep water drilling is happening more than ever. Since the arctic ice is not as thick as before, there are parts that were inaccessible open up. These now are being considered as possible future sites for drilling.
