Bangladesh’s long time tradition of tea picking has had one of its’ first modern innovations since around the 19th century. The gift of clean water has finally found its way into the tea plantations. This now allows workers a more sanitary lifestyle with clean, flowing latrines, cleaner drinking water, and bathing water that is untainted. This new development has lowered disease, sickness, and absenteeism overall which is making the tea companies more successful. Originally, the businessmen in these companies were against this idea because they believed that the people helping bring the clean water to the tea gardens would educate the workers into rising against them. Ultimately, they gave in and found that a healthy worker was more productive and efficient.
