The proposed Hinkley Point C nuclear plant on the Somerset coast has been approved by the Government. French and Chinese companies are financing its £18bn cost. Friends of the Earth have campaigned against it for 20 years and called it a disaster waiting to happen. Local residents have expressed some objections about cost and environmental impact, and there are plans to protest.
