The first American offshore wind farm will soon be a reality. Located off the coast of Block Island, this farm consisting of five turbines will be finished this fall. Each turbine is 29 tons and 650 feet tall. GE Renewable Energy will manage the turbines. The turbines will generate power for about 17,000 homes. While the cost is about $290 million, the benefits are significant. This could potentially be the start of something bigger.
