The drought in California has not only reached past its 4th year, but has set another grave milestone. The snow cover in the Sierra Nevada mountain range, a primary source of fresh water for California’s agriculture and cities, has reached its lowest level in 500 years. The lack of snow on the mountaintop due to climate change is making the current drought more severe as there is little melted water added to the state’s overall freshwater supply.
