Six hundred and sixty-three million people in the world don’t have access to clean water and sanitation services. Over 2/3rds of a billion citizens are at risk of dysentery and other diseases due to drinking contaminated water or washing with sewage-tainted water. There are some steps being taken to provide clean water for all, however.

The United Nations are in the midst of trying to give those people the access to cleaner water and/or the means to clean the dirty water they have. While their projected goal is still pending, many scientists and volunteers are working hard to improve the lives of those who desperately need water.
