Hazards of Hormones in Drinking Water

In 2002, the BBC, the Environment Agency, and the Independent conducted a joint study that found half the fish in British rivers had altered their genders or had both sex organs. In that same study, they also found that men’s fertility in England had plummeted in the previous 50 years. The culprit? Hormones in the water.

Oestradiol, a hormone used in contraceptive pills that is excreted in human waste, has been found as the main problem as it cannot be filtered out of tap water using traditional water treatment. Write to your public officials and bring awareness to this issue so change can occur and you can drink from the tap without concern.
