British Parliament wants to go green. It is eliminating single-use plastic from its premises starting summer, 2018. It will ban plastic bottles outright and add a 25p surcharge to all disposable coffee cups, hoping to eliminate by 2019 the hundreds of thousands of plastic bottles and disposable cups currently used. Parliament wants to encourage the use of re-usable coffee mugs and bottles and will install more water dispensers to help encourage this. This follows the House of Lords action of replacing plastic straws with paper ones and eliminating plastic condiment packages. Even plastic bags will be replaced with paper in the tourist gift shops. All of this will help efforts in reducing plastic pollution in the oceans.
