There have been champions in favor of adding fluoride to local tap water and critics as well. Many health officials believe the fluoride can help fight off tooth decay. Others believe the fluoride is unnatural and could cause adverse health effects. A new study gives weight to the critics’ claims.
Scientists at the University of Kent researched and found that areas with high levels of fluoridation contained more citizens with underactive thyroid glands. An underactive thyroid is linked to a myriad of problems such as depression, fatigue, and weight gain. It is up to the citizens to educate themselves and let public officials know what can flow out of their taps.
