Two farming business polluted the local waterways and killed about 35 fishes while causing significant damage to the local water and they were fined 35 thousand pounds for the damage. The businesses are Sutton Grange AD Ltd and Sutton Grange Services Ltd which operate in Nottinghamshire. The pollution was carried out when they discharged maize silage effluent from their farms. The case was heard at a magistrate court, the Mansfield magistrate court, on Friday, May 10 and the businesses which are located near Retford were charged accordingly with the offence. In a surprising move, they pleaded guilty to the offences. The Environmental agency testified that the maize effluent were discharged in an excessive way and that there were kept in a careless manner before the discharge that caused the runoff and pollution of local waters. Sutton Grange Services Ltd was also charged in connection to another pile of maize that was stored because the storage contravened silage, slurry, and agricultural fuel oil regulations in the area. The pollution incident that the two companies were being accused of occurred in October and November 2015 at the Sutton Grange farm.
