The surface of the earth is made of 70 percent water but on a sober note, only one percent of this water is known to be fresh water which is drinkable by humans. We are about to celebrate the 49th anniversary of the Earth Day globally and the golden jubilee is around the corner and people will be focusing on their abilities to conserve water along with the commitments they have to water conservation. There is now a demand that individuals and communities use water more responsibly because of the increasing population worldwide, the increasing demand for water, and the increasing rate at which droughts are occurring. When there is a drought people are forced to lower their water usage and reports have reportedly shown that to be happening recently. This is coupled with the fact that people can now identify and fix leaks to the toilet which if not fixed can make water wastage to be about 50 gallons a day. But the challenge for municipalities right now is their infrastructure is aging and some are even leaking. Some of the risks that go with this are corrosion and lead contamination. Some of the approaches ages are using to meet up to the challenge is using Advanced Metering infrastructure.
